Ways of spreading Chinese traditional costumes both in China and abroad

The Chinese National Costume Day

When it comes to events that spread the word about traditional Chinese costumes, we have to mention the Chinese National Costume Day. This event was originally started in 2018 and has now been successfully held for 5 years. Chinese Costume Day, as the name suggests, is a conference where traditional Chinese costumes are displayed in front of the public. Many beautiful, elegant, and generous traditional Chinese costumes can be seen every year during this large event.

Chinese National Costume Day is held on the third day of the third month of the lunar calendar every year. The timing of this event is also very significant, as the third day of the third month is the birthday of Huangdi, the founder of the Chinese nation, who brought the power of Chinese culture to the people. This day is therefore considered a very important festival for the Chinese people.

China's 5,000 years of culture is vast and profound, and has accumulated a rich culture of clothing and costumes. Chinese National Costume Day aims to share Chinese costumes and exchange Chinese culture both at home and abroad. It is also hoped that each generation of Chinese people can pass on this proud Chinese culture and serve as a legacy to the past and present.

This year's Chinese National Costume Day was held online due to the impact of the new coronavirus pandemic, with a call for images and videos on the world's leading social media platforms. Amazingly, the theme song for this year's event was sung by Chinese national treasure artist Li Yugang. His wonderful singing received rave reviews from audiences around the world.

Every year, Chinese National Costume Day posts many pictures of the beautiful and stunning traditional costumes on social media. It attracts many viewers interested in traditional Chinese costumes and promotes the development of the Chinese costume industry, which is one of the best ways to spread the culture of traditional Chinese costumes.

Xitang Hanfu Culture Week

The Xitang Hanfu Culture Week, like Chinese National Costume Day, is a major event to promote traditional Chinese costume culture. It is held every year from the end of October to the beginning of November in the ancient town of Xitang, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, China. So far, it has been successfully held nine times (starting in 2013).

Precisely because the cultural week is held at a regular time each year and has a wide range of activities, this has not only led to traditional Chinese costume culture being promoted, but has also attracted numerous Hanfu merchants and designers. The market for traditional Chinese clothing has been revived and the industry chain reconnected.

Firstly, take the Hanfu Culture Week event held in Xitang in 2019 as an example. This event attracted 40,000 Hanfu enthusiasts. Owning a Hanfu and wearing it at such an event is an extraordinary experience for Hanfu lovers. Hanfu is more expensive than normal clothing, as well as being less easy to wear and requiring complicated hair, make-up, and accessories. Therefore, most people do not want to buy a costume and opt to rent one instead. Most people would rather rent one. As a result, the Hanfu rental market is growing. Most offline Hanfu shops not only sell Hanfu products, but also offer photo shoots and rental services.

Secondly, it is worth noting that the businesses participating in Hanfu Culture Week also offer sales online. There are many Hanfu makers that offer a very wide variety of Hanfu in their online stores, each of which has their own characteristics and different popular styles for different dynasties. The wide variety of Hanfus offers consumers a huge choice of items to choose from. Merchants also profit from this, driving economic growth in the region.

In fact, some of the top designs of traditional Chinese costumes can be resold on the second-hand market today for up to twice their original price. Some consumers now consider these original items of clothing worth collecting and expect their value to increase over the years.

Xitang Hanfu Cultural Week is also a channel for the dissemination of these traditional costumes, contributing to the economic growth of the region and witnessing the revival and growth of the Hanfu industry.
